What we do

AI is transforming the creation, production, delivery and experience of media content and is enabling both the generation and personalisation of media experiences which are tailored to individual interest and accessibility requirements.

The Creative AI Futures research programme will introduce the next generation of tools and technologies for the creation of digital doubles of actors and performance. A central focus of the CoSTAR programme is to reduce or remove barriers to inclusion with current digital human technologies, such as the design of capture technologies which do not consider physical ability.

Industry Impact

The programme will build on the UK’s leading industry and academic expertise in the creation of digital representations of people. Research will address both open ethical and technical challenges such as:

  • Inclusive reconstruction and representation of digital humans
  • Practical single camera acquisition using consumer cameras
  • Life-like movement and behaviour modelling, editing and interaction
  • Video-realistic neural representation, rendering, relighting and compositing
  • Generative models of people leveraging foundation models/LLM

AI Futures research will be particularly connected to our CreaTech Futures work to ensure game engine character animation and rendering for exploitation in production pipelines.
