In June, CoSTAR Live Lab hosted a "From Stage to Stream" workshop, diving into the future of spatial audio for live performance. It was a fantastic day of collaboration, innovation, and discussion. The aim of this workshop was to cover the entire spatial audio pipeline - from capture, production and mixing to live reinforcement and next-gen streaming.
The event included expert sessions, with leaders from L-Acoustics & Bonza Music featuring research with Google and Sony, as well as live demos that provided hands-on experience with emerging tools for immersive environments. The day concluded with a focus on workflow integration, with a final demo showcasing the entire ecosystem in action.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to our incredible lineup of presenters who shared their expertise:
- Katarzyna Sochaczewska presented the ECHO project. Read more details about the project HERE.
- Bruce Wiggins discussed spatial audio in practice: "The Odyssey VR Production and Developments in Stereo Ambisonic Processing".
- John Johnson and Eiichi S., Sony, presented a session on "Front end 360 mixing."
- Guillaume Le Nost and Frederic Roskam, L-Acoustics, explored Spatial Mixing and Scaling, System Design, and Connection Protocols.
- Adam Hill discussed the hearing health potential of immersive audio.
- Sai Teranontamongkol and Fiona Ryder, Bonza Music, demonstrated a networked music performance using Bonza.
- Jacob Cooper and Laney Haywood showcased their RISE MoCaP project for real-time immersive streamed experiences. Read more about the project HERE.
- Tomasz Rudzki and Katarzyna Sochaczewska, Sonic Arx, presented Eclipsa Studio, a software tool developed in collaboration with Google, offering Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia)'s IAMF authoring and live-streaming capabilities.
