Tracking adoption of generative AI in the creative industries
Experimentation with generative AI is gathering pace within the creative industries. Through a unique collection of case studies, the CoSTAR Foresight Lab is tracking adoption of these technologies and building a knowledge base to help creatives, industry leaders and policy makers stay up to date with emerging use cases, new possibilities and evolving practice.

Twelve new case studies developed by the CoSTAR Foresight Lab offer a snapshot of how the UK creative industries are evolving practices, tools and workflows in response to the developing capabilities of generative AI models.
Case studies are published as part of the AI Casebook, an online collection designed to grow and expand as new use cases emerge across sectors – starting with film, television and video games.
Featured companies include Black Goblin (see header image for a mockup of Thol’s user interface) and Metrotone Media, UK innovators who were selected to join the 2026 cohort of CoSTAR Evolve, and who are exploring the potential for AI in audio spotting and script development for film and TV. Also profiled are games developers Ada Eden, Meaning Machine and 10six Games – indie studios who are using generative AI to create new gameplay experiences – and production company Deep Fusion Films, which is developing bespoke tools for TV production.
The AI Casebook builds on the CoSTAR Foresight Lab’s June 2025 report, AI in the Screen Sector: Perspectives and Paths Forward. Through Casebook case studies, the Foresight Lab is tracking sector adaptation and showing how independent creators and creative technology companies are aligning AI tools and practices with the nine-point roadmap set out in the Paths Forward report.

"In publishing the roadmap, our aim was to point the screen sector towards a future where AI enhances human creativity, rather than supplanting it. As we track adoption of this technology through our Casebook case studies, we are seeing the innovative ways in which creators are not only adapting their practices and workflows but are moulding generative AI capabilities around the needs of their creative visions and overcoming barriers or pain points in production."
